Our group decided to look into updating the “Facebook” page of Wikipedia. I initially typed in “Facebook” and was taken to the page of that name (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facebook). This page has a section on controversies of Facebook, but it does not discuss the copyright that Facebook has on items posted to Facebook (such as pictures) and information regarding any controversy around this. Also, there is one section in particular “Platform” that asks to be updated, so we can also work on that. There is talk of a movie, but it is very vague; also, there is no talk of a television series “Facebook Diaries” that we can talk about. This page also has no information on the “news feed.” Also, it mentions Facebook outside the US , but doesn’t provide much information about it.
On “Facebook Beacon” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facebook_Beacon) there are links missing to some of the websites it talks about. This would be a simple thing for us to fix.

It sounds like there are quite a few holes we can fill in regards to facebook info on wiki....we just need to determine which we are going to focus on.
ReplyDeleteI also found it strange that there wasn't mention of Facebook outside the US. There was only a little tidbit about it. Being abroad last quarter, I know that it's a lot bigger than what Wikipedia mentioned. Maybe that is something that we can look into?
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the pictures aspect! I can't believe that there isn't anything mentioned about the copyright of Facebook photos on Wikipedia! I found that so crazy!
